As of a couple weeks go, Hyrum's been sitting with us at the table with a booster chair and since then he's taken a great interest in eating utensils. He would try to take the fork I was feeding him with and want to poke the food himself and put it in his mouth. Of course he often time wasn't successful, but the fact that he knew exactly what to do with the thing and used all the baby coordination he had to achieve it really surprised me. I honestly didn't think he would be using a fork until he was well over a year. I guess kids are just really eager to do what they see us do everyday (no wonder Hyrum gives me slobbery bites on my face, Dad does it all the time). Since our forks are weighty and could be used as a weapon or eye gauger in a baby's hand, we decided to get him his very own forks. They're pink because it is his favorite color...or maybe because we didn't notice at the time that they were meant for girls. Oh well, it doesn't matter, he LOVES his new forks. And now he's discovered that they double as a musical instrument against the plate and that the rubber handle is way more fun to chew on than the actual fork and that the use of a fork is WAY less efficient than use of a hand to shove food in your mouth, but it's still way to cool keep it your hand while you eat at all times (never attempt to take it away, I've learned).
